For design:Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Solstice is a stunning, contemporary ship with a half-acre of real grass up on top, a dramatic main dining room created by noted designer Adam Tihany, an impressive modern art collection and plenty of cushy places to hang out. Solstice — one of three ships the line has in Alaska this summer — cruises from Seattle, fares from $899.
Passengers on some of Un-Cruise Adventures' small ships (all under 100 passengers) hardly see civilization for a week. Instead, you explore remote areas on hikes, kayaks and Zodiacs. Do an Active Adventures cruise on the 76-passenger Wilderness Discoverer between Ketchikan and Juneau, fares from $3, 195.
For the best variety of shipboard show productions, comedians, game shows and lounge performers check out the Carnival Cruise Line's 2, 124-passenger Carnival Miracle, cruising from Seattle, priced from $679. Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas (one of two ships the line has in Alaska) also has fabulous onboard entertainment. Radiance will be sailing between Vancouver and Seward, fares from $599.
