OCALA, Fla. - A day after saying goodbye to his son, the father of slain Ocala police Officer Jared Forsyth found himself waging a battle.

His family was supposed to take a cruise next week to celebrate Timothy Haley's 60th birthday, but after his son was killed in the line of duty last week, the family said they just couldn't do it.

The family was shocked to find out Carnival Cruise Lines wouldn't give them their money back.

"I needed help, and with something as tragic as this, and all I got back from Carnival was how much of my money could they keep, " Haley told Local 6.

Haley is a platinum member of Carnival's Loyalty Program. He said he couldn't find an operator on the phone with Carnival who he thought understood the gravity of his son's death or the circumstances.

"I want you to just turn on the news and see that I'm not lying to you about my son's service, and refund my money, " he said he told one of the operators.

Local 6 contacted Carnival and told their media representative about Haley's situation and Forsyth's death.

They sent a response 45 minutes later: "Carnival has provided a full refund to Mr. Haley and his family. Our most heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Haley and his family during this tragic situation."

Carnival has also decided to waive the insurance fees paid by Haley.

"I'm hoping we can repair a relationship, " Haley said. "Certainly we love the cruise and we love cruising with Carnival, but I'm going to reflect on where I spend my money from now on."
